Authorities Crack Down on Unhygienic Food Vendors in Gwadar, 36 Arrested
Gwadar: In a major operation against the sale of unhygienic food, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Gwadar, Mir Jawad Zehri, led an enforcement drive that resulted in the arrest of 36 individuals.
According to the Assistant Commissioner, street vendors selling snacks like fritters (pakoras) and samosas were previously instructed to install protective glass covers on their stalls to shield food from dust and dirt. Despite repeated warnings, many failed to comply with these safety guidelines.
Mir Zehri emphasized that dust and dirt often mix with cooking oil and gram flour, making the food hazardous to public health. Additionally, many vendors were found neglecting hygiene practices, posing a significant risk to consumers.
Three days before the crackdown, the administration issued a final warning, but due to continued non-compliance, authorities took action, leading to the arrest of 36 violators. The Assistant Commissioner made it clear that these vendors would not be released until they fully adhere to hygiene and food safety regulations.
He further stated that during Ramadan, the demand for these snacks increases, forcing citizens to consume food fried in substandard and repeatedly used oil, which can be harmful to health. The administration is committed to enforcing stricter measures to ensure the public has access to safe and hygienic food.
