Islamabad: A high-level delegation from the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), led by Director General Shafqat Anwar Shahwani, visited the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI). The delegation held an in-depth meeting with ISSI Director Dr. Talat Shabir, Research Fellow Asadullah Khan, and other experts. During the visit, ISSI briefed the delegation on its research activities and published studies.
GDA-Pak China Friendship Hospital. A Landmark CPEC Initiative
DG GDA highlighted the significant impact of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, particularly the GDA-Pak China Friendship Hospital. This hospital provides modern and high-quality medical services free of charge to thousands of underprivileged patients in the Makran region. The delegation emphasized that public welfare projects like this, along with the Pak-China Technical Institute, are directly benefiting local communities. Even critics of CPEC recognize the value of these initiatives in improving healthcare and technical education.
Research Collaboration for Regional Development
GDA and ISSI agreed to establish a joint research platform to guide future development planning in the region. Both institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation. The primary goal of this platform is to integrate the aspirations of local communities, particularly youth and women, into development policies, ensuring sustainable and balanced progress.
Exploring Blue Economy Potential
The meeting also focused on the vast potential of the blue economy. Experts discussed strategies to utilize marine resources for economic growth, which could create new employment opportunities for the local population.
This visit marks a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between GDA and ISSI. Their joint efforts will contribute to research-driven policy-making and regional development, fostering long-term progress.
