China’s Medical Services Earn Pakistan’s Appreciation at Asian Winter Games

Harbin (Xinhua): The enduring friendship between Pakistan and China was highlighted at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, where Pakistan acknowledged China’s exceptional medical services with a formal appreciation letter and a national sports medal.

The recognition was extended to the Chinese medical team for their outstanding care of a Pakistani official, underscoring the spirit of cross-border camaraderie.

On February 7, a Pakistani female official participating in the Yabuli competition zone sought urgent medical attention at the Athletes’ Village Clinic, operated by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University (HMU).

Suffering from severe coughing, dizziness, and irregular heartbeat, she was promptly examined by Dr. Sun Tewei, head of the clinic and chief of the hospital’s emergency surgery department. Recognizing the complexity of her symptoms, a multidisciplinary team (MDT) was assembled, bringing together specialists in neurology, emergency medicine, and cardiology.

Dr. Jiao Hong (Neurology), Dr. Zhang Deshen (Emergency Medicine), and Dr. Sun Na (Cardiology) collaborated to devise an effective treatment plan. By February 9, follow-up evaluations confirmed a significant improvement in the patient’s condition, allowing her to resume her duties.

In appreciation, the Pakistani delegation invited the medical team for a commemorative photo session at their residence.

The head of the Pakistani delegation praised the medical staff’s expertise, stating

China’s unwavering support for Pakistan in healthcare, education, and economic development has always touched our hearts. Here at the Games, we witnessed the exceptional skills of HMU’s medical professionals.

As a token of gratitude, the delegation presented a formal letter of thanks and the Pakistan Olympic Association Medal—one of the highest sporting honors in the country—symbolizing deep respect for the Chinese team’s dedication.

Prof. Xu Wanhai, Vice Head of the Yabuli Competition Zone and President of HMU’s Second Affiliated Hospital, expressed appreciation for the honor, stating:

This medal and letter are not just acknowledgments but a motivation for us to uphold the highest standards of medical care for all participants. The flourishing friendship between China and Pakistan continues to strengthen.

This remarkable moment, marked by a commemorative picture, an honorary medal, and a letter of appreciation, serves as a testament to the deep-rooted bond between the two nations. Against the backdrop of the Asian Winter Games, China-Pakistan relations shine like winter blossoms—radiant, resilient, and ever-thriving.
