Gunmen Attack Jaffar Express Train in Balochistan, Hostages Reported

Quetta: Reports have emerged of intense gunfire targeting the Jaffar Express train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, between Gudalor and Piru Konari. According to Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind, emergency measures have been implemented to address the crisis.

The Sibi Hospital has declared a state of emergency to accommodate any casualties. Ambulances have been dispatched to the scene, but access to the affected area remains difficult due to the challenging mountainous terrain.

The railway department has sent a relief train to the site, while security forces are en route to handle the situation. Authorities are assessing the nature of the incident, including the possibility of a terrorist attack. Preliminary reports suggest that the attack could be linked to terrorism, with investigations currently underway.

The Balochistan government has ordered immediate emergency response measures, ensuring that all relevant agencies remain active and coordinated. Officials have urged the public to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

According to railway officials, the Jaffar Express comprises nine carriages and was carrying nearly 500 passengers at the time of the incident. Armed individuals reportedly halted the train inside Tunnel No. 8. Efforts are ongoing to establish contact with passengers and crew members, as confirmed by Railway Controller Muhammad Kashif.

International news outlet CBNCTV 18News reported on social media platform X that the Baloch separatist group, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), has claimed responsibility for hijacking the Jaffar Express. The group alleges that six people have been killed and more than 400 passengers are being held hostage.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with security forces mobilized to manage the crisis and ensure passenger safety.
