Chinese and Pakistani Scholars Express Satisfaction Over CPEC Development

Beijing (Xinhua): A group of Chinese and Pakistani scholars convened in Beijing on Thursday to discuss interregional cooperation and development under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Shen Zengpeng, Executive Dean of the Belt and Road Research Institute at Jiangsu Normal University, stated at the China-Pakistan Economic and Cultural Exchange Seminar that China and Pakistan have strengthened political trust and cooperation while maintaining high-level exchanges. He highlighted that both nations have accelerated CPEC construction and expanded collaboration in multiple sectors, setting a benchmark for international partnerships.

Wang Shu, Deputy Director of the South Asian Studies Center at Peking University, noted that South Asia is undergoing significant changes. He emphasized China’s commitment to advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and CPEC, creating new opportunities for industrial transformation and sustainable economic growth in the region.

Daulat Khan, Registrar at the University of Gwadar, mentioned that several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed between Chinese and Pakistani institutions. Scholars believe these agreements will unlock regional potential and drive economic progress. He underscored the importance of a strategic approach to harness agriculture and agribusiness opportunities under CPEC to stimulate economic growth and employment.

Jalal Faiz, Director General of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), highlighted Balochistan’s historical vulnerability to drought. He stressed the need to adopt Chinese technologies to combat climate challenges. As a central player in this transformative initiative, Balochistan plays a pivotal role in shaping regional socio-economic and political landscapes at national and international levels.

The success of CPEC, he concluded, relies on local participation and the fair distribution of its benefits.
